The term "suitable for handicapped people" is often used for tourist products, but the real needs of handicapped people are rarely met. This yielded a study on behalf of the regional tourism association in Vorpommern with the aim to examine options for establishing a competence center for a barrier free tourism in the Müritz region in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The focal question to be answered was, whether such a competence center under the leadership of handicapped people should be established in addition to the existing tourism organisations and how this could be financed.

Several options for the competence centre for barrier free tourism where presented and discussed in a final workshop, which was attended by the regional tourism association and the local association of handicapped people.
